Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert T. Kiyosaki

Cover Page (Second Edition)
Description

Rich Dad Poor Dad is a 1997 book written by Robert T. Kiyosaki and Sharon Lechter. It advocates the importance of financial literacy, financial independence, and building wealth through investing in assets, real estate, starting and owning a business, and increasing one's financial intelligence (IQ).

The book is written in a set of parables, ostensibly based on Kiyosaki's life. The titular 'rich dad' is allegedly his friend's father who accumulated wealth due to entrepreneurship and savvy knowledge of investment, while the 'poor dad' is claimed to be his own dad who worked very hard but never got financial securities. So basically, the book defines the difference between work for money and let money work for you.

It has been nearly 25 years since Robert's Rich Dad Poor Dad broke all the records and crossed all the limitations in the Personal Finance arena. It has since become the #1 personal finance book of all time which has been translated into dozens of languages and sold millions of copies around the world.

In the 20th Anniversary Edition of this classic, Robert offers an update on what we have seen over the past years related to money investing and the global economy. Sidebars, throughout the book, will take readers 'fast forward'--from 1997 to today-- as Robert assesses how the principles taught by his rich dad have stood the test of time.

In many ways, the messages of Rich Dad Poor Dad were criticized and challenged two decades ago, are more meaningful, relevant, and important today. As always, readers can expect that Robert will be candid, insightful... and continue to rock more than a few boats in his retrospective.

The book---

  • Explodes the myth that you need to earn a high income to become rich
  • Challenges the belief that your house is an asset
  • Shows parents why they can't rely on the school system to teach their kids about money
  • Defines once and for all an asset and a liability
  • Teaches you what to teach your kids about money for their future financial success

The Intelligent Investor by Benjamin Graham

    Cover Page

“If you read just one book on investing during your lifetime, make it this one"--Fortune

“The wider Mr. Graham’s gospel spreads, the more fairly the market will deal with its public.”-- Barron's

The Intelligent Investor: The Definitive Book on Value Investing and A Book of Practical Counsel is the revised edition  of Benjamin Graham's original book, co-written and edited by Jason Zweig and collaborated by Warren E. Buffett

The greatest investment advisor of the twentieth century, Benjamin Graham taught and inspired people worldwide. Graham's philosophy of “value investing”—which shields investors from substantial error and teaches them to develop long-term strategies—has made The Intelligent Investor the stock market bible ever since its original publication in 1949.

Over the years, market developments have proven the wisdom of Graham’s strategies. While preserving the integrity of Graham’s original text, this revised edition includes updated commentary by noted financial journalist Jason Zweig, whose perspective incorporates the realities of today’s market, draws parallels between Graham’s examples and today’s financial headlines, and gives readers a more thorough understanding of how to apply Graham’s principles.

Vital and indispensable, The Intelligent Investor is the most important book you will ever read on how to reach your financial goals.

      Description
"It’s one of the best and most original finance books in years."
-- Jason Zweig, The Wall Street Journal

"Morgan Housel is that rare writer who can translate complex concepts into a gripping, easy-to-digest narrative. The Psychology of Money is a fast-paced, engaging read that will leave you with both the knowledge to understand why we make bad financial decisions and the tools to make better ones."
--Annie Duke, Author, Thinking in Bets

Doing well with money isn’t necessarily about what you know. It’s about how you behave. And behavior is hard to teach, even to really smart people.

Money―investing, personal finance, and business decisions―is typically taught as a math-based field, where data and formulas tell us exactly what to do. But in the real world, people don’t make financial decisions on a spreadsheet. They make them at the dinner table, or in a meeting room, where personal history, your own unique view of the world, ego, pride, marketing, and odd incentives are scrambled together. In The Psychology of Money, award-winning author Morgan Housel shares 19 short stories exploring the strange ways people think about money and teaches you how to make better sense of one of life’s most important topics.

    • About the Author
    • Morgan Housel is a partner at The Collaborative Fund and a former columnist at The Motley Fool and The Wall Street Journal. He is a two-time winner of the Best in Business Award from the Society of American Business Editors and Writers, winner of the New York Times Sidney Award, and a two-time finalist for the Gerald Loeb Award for Distinguished Business and Financial Journalism.

Indeed, the phone was ringing when I entered the room. When I answered, a voice at the other end said, 'The prime minister wants to talk with you.' Some months earlier, I had left my post as Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India to return to teaching. Now, as I spoke to the PM, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, my life was set for an unexpected change.'Turning Points takes up the incredible Kalam story from where Wings of Fire left off. It brings together details from his career and presidency that are not generally known as he speaks out for the first time on certain points of controversy. "We all are born with a divine fire in us. Our efforts should be to give wings."

The 'Wings of Fire' is an autobiography by visionary scientist Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, who from very humble beginnings rose to be the President of India. The book is full of insights, personal moments, and life experiences of Dr. Kalam. It gives us an understanding of his journey of success.

Dr. Kalam by narrating his life journey evokes the reader to identify with one’s inner fire and potential, for he was of the firm belief that each one of us was born with the strength and potential to make a tangible change in the world. Personal tragedies have not been left out which he has given details in the book like the time he lost his father. He attributes his personal endeavors to how he felt when conferred with India's prestigious awards.

The second half of the book deals with Dr Kalam, the scientist who made a significant contribution in developing the countries guided missile program, a pioneering effort for the security of the nation. It's not with reason that he was nicknamed the 'Missile Man of India'
The book also contains 24 photographs at various stages of his life.

Authored by Dr APJ Abdul Kalam and Mr. Arun Tiwari, the 180-page book 'The Wings of Fire' was first published in the year 2000. The Code Breaker by Walter Isaacson

    Original Cover Page
    PC: Google Images

    Description

The bestselling author of Leonardo da Vinci and Steve Jobs returns with a gripping account of how Nobel Prize winner Jennifer Doudna and her colleagues launched a revolution that will allow us to cure diseases, fend off viruses, and have healthier babies.

When Jennifer Doudna was in sixth grade, she came home one day to find that her dad had left a paperback titled The Double Helix on her bed. She put it aside, thinking it was one of those detective tales she loved. When she read it on a rainy Saturday, she discovered she was right, in a way. As she sped through the pages, she became enthralled by the intense drama behind the competition to discover the code of life. Even though her high school counselor told her girls didn’t become scientists, she decided she would.

Driven by a passion to understand how nature works and to turn discoveries into inventions, she would help to make what the book’s author, James Watson, told her was the most important biological advance since his co-discovery of the structure of DNA. She and her collaborators turned a curiosity of nature into an invention that will transform the human race: an easy-to-use tool that can edit DNA. Known as CRISPR, it opened a brave new world of medical miracles and moral questions.

The development of CRISPR and the race to create vaccines for coronavirus will hasten our transition to the next great innovation revolution. The past half-century has been a digital age, based on the microchip, computer, and internet. Now we are entering a life-science revolution. Children who study digital coding will be joined by those who study genetic code.

Should we use our new evolution-hacking powers to make us less susceptible to viruses? What a wonderful boon that would be! And what about preventing depression? Hmmm…Should we allow parents, if they can afford it, to enhance the height or muscles or IQ of their kids?

After helping to discover CRISPR, Doudna became a leader in wrestling with these moral issues and, with her collaborator Emmanuelle Charpentier, won the Nobel Prize in 2020. Her story is a thrilling detective tale that involves the most profound wonders of nature, from the origins of life to the future of our species.

"Issacson depicts science at its most exhilarating in this lively biography of Jennifer Doudna, the winner of the 2020 Nobel Prize in medicine for her work on the CRISPR system of gene editing...The result is a gripping account of great scientific advancement and of the dedicated scientists who realized it."--Publisher's Weekly (starred review)

It Ends with Us by Colleen Hoover

    Original Cover Page

    Description

In this “brave and heartbreaking novel that digs its claws into you and doesn’t let go, long after you’ve finished it” (Anna Todd, New York Times bestselling author) from the #1 New York Timesbestselling author of All Your Perfects, a workaholic with a too-good-to-be-true romance can’t stop thinking about her first love.

An honest, evocative, and tender novel, It Ends with Us is a 'glorious and touching read, a forever Keeper. The kind of book that gets handed down".--USA TODAY

Lily hasn't always had it easy, she just buried her father but that has never stopped her from working hard for the life she wants. She's come a long way from the small town where she grew up--she graduated from college, moved to Boston, and started her own business. Suddenly, destiny takes her to a fairy ride where she meets a handsomely beautiful guy, a neurosurgeon, named Ryle Kincaid. Lily feels that spark in her body, everything in her life seems too good to be true.

Ryle is assertive, stubborn, maybe even a little arrogant. He’s also sensitive, brilliant, and has a total soft spot for Lily. And the way he looks in scrubs certainly doesn’t hurt. Lily can’t get him out of her head. But Ryle’s complete aversion to relationships is disturbing. Even as Lily finds herself becoming the exception to his “no dating” rule, she can’t help but wonder what made him that way in the first place.

As questions about her new relationship overwhelm her, so do thoughts of Atlas Corrigan—her first love and a link to the past she left behind. He was her kindred spirit, her protector. When Atlas suddenly reappears, everything Lily has built with Ryle is threatened.

With this bold and deeply personal novel, Colleen Hoover delivers a heart-wrenching story that breaks exciting new ground for her as a writer. Combining a captivating romance with a cast of all-too-human characters, It Ends With Us is an unforgettable tale of love that comes at the ultimate price.

It Ends With Us is a standalone contemporary.
