- Sleeping beauties is a novel by the 'King of Horror' Stephen King and his son Owen King, published on September 26, 2017. The book was first mentioned during a promotional appearance on the CBC radio program Q(q) by saying, "Owen brought me this dynamite idea, I am not going to say what the is because it's too good."
The novel inscribes the future of the world where a mystical occurrence causes all the women in the world to fall asleep. They become shrouded in a cocoon-like gauze. If their gauze wrapped bodies are violated or disturbed, they would be awake; would become feral, and spectacularly violent. And, while they sleep they go to a better place, where harmony prevails and conflict is rare.
One mysterious woman 'Eve Black' is immune from 'Aurora' the sleeping disease. It could be a curse or a blessings. She can communicate telepathically with animals such as rats and has the power of shapeshifting. Is she a medical peculiarity or she is the cause of the demonic occurrence who must be slain?
Abandoned men are divided into warring cliques, some want to kill Eve, some want to save her. Others exploit the chaos to wreak their own vengeance on new enemies. After being recognized as a cause of the chaos, she justifies her actions by claiming herself to be on a mission to determine whether men can survive in the world without women.
Review
Sleeping Beauties is a wildly provocative, gloriously dramatic father-son collaboration that feels particularly relevant to today's era. This epic colorful story of the global pandemic and a youthful vigor not seen in years. It provides a pack of action, thrills, and humor to keep readers turning the page flawlessly. The novel is a well-tooled horror thriller with interesting characters. It got both but mainly positive reviews from its critics and readers.
"It's a violent, dystopian thrill ride that will leave you horrified and hooked."- People
"Entertaining...Sleeping Beauties is a bulging, colorful epic; a super-sized happy meal, liberally salted with supporting characters and garnished with splashes of arterial ketchup. This epic feels so vital and fresh." - The Guardian
