Lisey's Story (2006) is a novel by the 'King of Horror' Stephen King that combines the elements of psychological horror and romance. It was originally published on October 24, 2006, and won Barm Stoker Award for Best Novel, and was nominated for the World Fantasy Award in 2007.
Lisey's Story is King's favorite novel which he has written. In April 2019, it was announced that the book will be adapted as an eight-part limited series called Lisey's Story scripted by Stephen King, starring Julianne Moore.
The novel is the story of Lisey Landon, the widow of a famous and wildly successful novelist, Scott Landon. The book tells two stories--Lisey's story in the present, and the Story of her dead husband's life, as remembered by Lisey during the course of the novel. Early in their relationship, before they got married, Lisey had to learn from him about books, blood, and bools. Later, she understood that there was a place Scott went-- that both terrified and healed him, that could eat him alive or give him the ideas he needed in order to live. Now it's Lisey's turn to face Scott's demons, Lisey's turn to go to Boo'ya Moon. What begins as a widow's effort to sort through the papers of her celebrated husband becomes a nearly fatal journey into the darkness he inhabited. Perhaps, King's most personal and powerful novel, Lisey's Story is about the wellspring of creativity, the temptations of madness, and the secret of the language of love.
