It includes The Snowstorm (1856), Polikushka (1863), The Prisoner of the Caucasus (1872), Where Love Is, There God is Also (1885), Two Old Men (1885), Ivan the Fool (1885), Kholstomír (1885), The Imp and The Crust (1886), The Coffee House of Surat (1893), Master and Man (1895), Father Sergius,(1890-1898) Work, Death and Sickness (1903), After the Ball (1903), and Alyosha the Pot (1905), among his other masterpieces. An editorial note precedes each work and they were published in 1911 as a collection of short stories.

About the Author

Leo Tolstoy (9 September 1828 - 20 November 1910), was born to an aristocratic Russian family as Count Lev Nikolayevich Tolstoy. He was a writer who is regarded as one of the greatest authors of all time. After serving in the Crimean War, he retired to his estate and devoted himself to writing and farming to raise his large family. His novels and outspoken social polemics brought
him 'world-fame'.

He mainly wrote short stories, philosophical essays, plays, and later novels. His most popular novels are Anna Karenina and War and Peace often cited as pinnacles of realist fiction. His book on the non-violent form of resistance, The Kingdom of God is Within You, inspired great reformers like Marti Luther King and Mahatama Gandhi. He is also well known for his criticism of William Shakespeare.

He received nominations for the Nobel Prize in Literature every year from 1902 to 1906 and Nobel Peace Prize in 1901, 1902, and 1909. But he never won and that was a major controversy.
