 The protagonist, Griffin, is a scientist who was researching optics and accidentally invented a way to change a body's refractive index to that of air so that it neither absorbs nor reflects light. About the Author

Herbert George Wells was a prolific writer born in Kent in 1866. He was the son of a professional cricketer and a lady's maid. Wells served apprenticeships as a draper and a chemist's assistant before winning a scholarship to the prestigious Normal School of Science in London. He was passionate about politics as well as literature. 

Wells's contribution to the literature world is distinctive, that includes groundbreaking science-fiction novels and an array of non-fictional short stories as well as novels. His novels include The Time Machine, The War of the Worlds, The Invisible Man, and The Island of Doctor Moreau. He also wrote extensively on politics and social matters. He was nominated four times for the Nobel Prize in Literature. He was one of the foremost public intellectuals of his days.
