About the Author

Charlie Mackesy (born In December 1962, Northumberland) is a British artist and the author of the novel The Boy, The mole, The Fox, and The Horse. The book has sold over 1.4 million copies and spent 55 weeks on the Sunday Times Bestseller List.

He was working with The Spectator as a cartoonist and is a book illustrator for Oxford University Press. He has collaborated with Richard Curtis for Comic Relief and was selected for Nelson Mandela's lithograph project, "The Unity Series," to recreate the drawings that Mandela made. He was contacted by an editor who had seen his drawings on Instagram and subsequently published with her on Ebury.

Charlie Mackesy lived in South Africa, Southern-Saharan Africa, and the United States of America where he painted for a living. He is a former atheist and many of his paintings are based on religious themes. Currently, he lives in London and often in Suffolk to look after his mother with his sister.
